Happy Yuan Xiao (15th day of Chinese New Year) to all! According to Chinese tradition, this is a day of reunion when family get together and eat 汤圆。。。 Ironically I am in Beijing away from family, eating 泡面... Not too bad lar...
Chinese New Year is so different in Beijing... Everyone is letting off firecrackers and fireworks (YES... Fireworks!) even as I am blogging now... So COOL!! Sounds like a war happening out there man...
This is what I see from my window...
On a separate note, I arrived in Beijing last night via train from Shanghai. Took a cab from the train station and thought I could finally relax in the comfort of home after a 9 hour train ride. I opened the door only to find that there was no electricity at home.
In China, all the utilities (water, gas, ELECTRICITY) are prepaid and after a 1.5 month hiatus, I had "run out" of electricity... We tend to take things for granted and I learnt this the hard way yesterday. Without electricity, I had no TV, no internet, no lights. More importantly, without electricity, I had no heater and in turn, no heating and no hot water... My plans to relax at home had to be shut down literally. (Geddit, Geddit?? No sense of humor one...) I could only huddle under my blanket in the dark and wait for daylight... I never felt so homeless, albeit in my own home...hahaha...
Some of you may be thinking why I took a train from Shanghai... Well, I went for a 10-day trip covering, Macau, Zhu Hai, Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Su Zhou and Zhou Zhuang with my MBA buddy Raymond and my wife... Will blog about my experiences and post the pictures in my next few blogs... Look out for it... (Just like 赤壁 but more sequels.. hehe)
